2004 Horse of the Year Ghostzapper retired

NEW YORK (AP) - Ghostzapper, the 2004 Horse of the Year who was brilliant in winning the Metropolitan Handicap two weeks ago, was retired Monday after the discovery of a hairline fracture of his left front ankle.

Most mornings after the Belmont Stakes, the last and longest of the series, trainers quickly point out their horses are taking an extended break before they resume training. Afleet Alex isn't like most horses.
