May 27 2005 4:49PM (CT)
PARIS (AP) - Venus Williams sparkled from the diamond choker around her neck to the two bejeweled blue sweatbands around her left ankle. If only her tennis had shone so brightly. Williams' game looked leaden in the first and last sets of a 6-3, 1-6, 6-1 third-round loss at the French Open on Friday to 15-year-old Bulgarian Sesil Karatantcheva on a day when top-seeded Lindsay Davenport survived her third straight three-set thriller.

The pair met Friday for the second time this season _ and for the second time Nadal beat the Frenchman, this time 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the fourth round at Roland Garros.

May 27 2005 2:43PM (CT)
PARIS (AP) - Modesty aside, Roger Federer notes that he's the best player in the world and has beaten everyone there is to beat. So he fears no one.

Safin's bad health continues at French Open
May 27 2005 2:46AM (CT)
PARIS (AP) - Marat Safin must think he's cursed at the French Open. Last year it was blisters on both hands. On Thursday, tendinitis in his left knee prompted him to call a trainer twice in the first set before he limped and hobbled past Czech qualifier Lukas Dlouhy 6-7 (6), 6-3, 7-5, 6-1.
