Injury slows Sharapova's move to No. 1

CARSON, Calif. (AP) - Maria Sharapova is on her way to becoming No. 1 in the world. She'll have to put the celebration on hold for another 10 days, though. Sharapova withdrew from the JPMorgan Chase Open because of a strained chest muscle Friday, postponing her move from No. 2 into the top spot. The tournament's top seed was scheduled to play ninth-seeded Daniela Hantuchova of Slovakia in an evening quarterfinal match.

Nadal, Mathieu reach Montreal semifinals

MONTREAL (AP) - Top-seeded Rafael Nadal advanced to the semifinals of the Rogers Cup on Friday, needing just 72 minutes to oust Mariano Puerta of Argentina 6-3, 6-1 in a rematch of the French Open final. Nadal will face unseeded Paul-Henri Mathieu on Saturday. The Frenchman defeated Karol Beck of Slovakia 6-1, 6-2.

Myskina, Douchevina win at Nordic Light

STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) - Former French Open champion Anastasia Myskina beat hometown favorite Sofia Arvidsson 7-5, 6-2 Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Nordic Light Open.
