INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Jaques Lazier will drive a Panoz-Toyota race car entered by the new Playa Del Racing team in this year's Indianapolis 500.
 
NASCAR's Hmiel penalized for gesture

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Shane Hmiel was fined $10,000 and docked 25 points in the standings by NASCAR on Wednesday for making an obscene gesture at Dale Jarrett during the Busch Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway earlier this week.
 
Death of female boxer stuns friends

DENVER (AP) - It was the kind of blow that occurs thousands of times in boxing matches across the country: In the third round of a women's bout, Becky Zerlentes took a shot to the head above her left eye, then staggered forward and fell to the canvas. Only this time, Zerlentes never regained consciousness and died, becoming the first female boxer to die in a sanctioned event.
