Drivers ready for qualifying at Indy 500

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Danica Patrick takes her first shot at qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 on Saturday, and she just might end up on the pole. Patrick, the only woman entered in the Indy 500 on May 29, has been driving as fast as any of the drivers this week, hitting speeds just under 228 mph on the 2 1/2-mile oval. All Patrick is trying to do now, is stay focused and become the fourth female to qualify for the race.
 
Dana hurt in Indy crash involving Hornish

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Rookie Paul Dana was seriously injured and two-time Indy Racing League champion Sam Hornish Jr. was able to walk away from a crash during Friday's practice for the May 29 Indianapolis 500.
 
Scheckter jumps into pole contention

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Tomas Scheckter moved into the favorite's role heading into Saturday's pole qualifying for the Indianapolis 500 by posting the fastest lap since practice began on the 2 1/2-mile Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
 
Mears' eyes on Indy but heart's on NASCAR

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Casey Mears is among the NASCAR drivers who will tune in Saturday to Pole Day qualifying at the Indianapolis 500. But while fellow Nextel Cup drivers Kevin Harvick said he didn't know the laps were even scheduled and Mark Martin said he may happen upon the qualifying "accidentally," Mears' situation is different.
 
Rice plans to resume practicing next week

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Defending Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice was released from the hospital Thursday and plans to resume practice next week.
