Kentucky race includes many Nextel drivers

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) - NASCAR fans in Kentucky have pined for a top series race ever since Kentucky Speedway opened in 2000. But the lack of a Nextel Cup event hasn't stopped some of the series' drivers from running at Kentucky Speedway, and five Cup regulars will be in the field for the Busch Series Meijer 300 on Saturday night.

Montoya fastest in Grand Prix practice

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Juan Pablo Montoya again was the quickest driver, and this time there was no red stoplight to slow him down. Montoya, disqualified while leading the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal last week, was the fastest Friday in each of the first two sessions of practice for Sunday's U.S. Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The seven-time Formula One champion has either started from the pole or won the race every year the USGP has been run at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Swervin' Ernie Irvan now promotes safety

BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) - Ernie Irvan's life, for better and worse, has taken several twists at Michigan International Speedway. His last NASCAR win came at Michigan in 1997. The victory sandwiched two devastating crashes on the two-mile oval that eventually forced him to retire in 1999. So it's no coincidence Irvan chose the Michigan track as the promotional launching pad for his new focus, a nationwide effort to raise awareness about brain injury prevention.
