Gov't extends comment period on bear plan

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK (AP) - The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday that it will give the public more time to comment on the agency's proposal to lift special protections for grizzly bears around Yellowstone National Park.
 
Tangled whale freed off Hawaiian island

LANAI CITY, Hawaii (AP) - A 40-foot humpback whale wiggled off into the deep without a look back after ocean researchers and volunteers freed it from a tangle of abandoned fishing lines and other debris, possibly saving its life.
 
EPA lifts gas requirements for states

WASHINGTON (AP) - States no longer will have to add corn-based ethanol or MTBE to gasoline to fight pollution _ a requirement that costs as much as 8 cents a gallon _ under rules announced Wednesday by the Environmental Protection Agency.
