MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Officials have confirmed the presence of a Canada lynx in Vermont for the first time in nearly 40 years. Wildlife biologists from Vermont and New Hampshire identified a set of lynx tracks in a state wildlife management area in Victory on Feb. 7. The Canada lynx is native to Vermont, but the population has always been small.

WASHINGTON (AP) - It's a mystery even for researchers at the Smithsonian Institution: What happened to the huge crowds at the National Air and Space Museum? The estimated number of visitors to the museum plunged to about 5 million in 2006 from a six-year high of 9.4 million in 2003, according to the latest attendance report from the museum complex. And the decline has been far sharper than that of the overall Smithsonian, which includes 18 museums and the National Zoo.

Study: Yellowstone air quality improves

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - The air quality at two of the most popular winter spots here continues to improve, a new study finds. Levels of carbon monoxide and certain particulate at the park's west entrance at West Yellowstone, the most popular winter gate, and Old Faithful, the most popular destination, still are "well below" national ambient air-quality standards and the air quality is good, the study by the National Park Service concluded.

Mud tomb found near oldest Egypt pyramid

CAIRO, Egypt (AP) - A mud brick tomb dating back more than 4,000 years has been discovered near Egypt's most ancient pyramid in the Saqqara complex south of Cairo, according to an antiquities official. The tomb was located by an Egyptian-Australian mission, Egypt's antiquities chief, Zahi Hawass, announced Monday.
