Gliders tracking whale calls, ocean waves

HONOLULU (AP) - Ocean scientists can now plunge into the middle of the sea without leaving their offices. Six-foot, 100-pound underwater gliders are swimming the oceans of the world and dutifully sending data home on everything from whale calls to the massive waves produced by hurricanes.

You want three blind mice? That'll run you about $250. And for your own custom mouse, with the genetic modification of your choosing, expect to pay as much as $100,000.

Researchers work to save gooney birds

HONOLULU (AP) - A pack of 10 gooney bird chicks _ still fuzzy and flightless _ flew into Kauai Friday _ on a chartered plane. Japanese researchers are set to raise the wild birds and thus get a leg up on saving their country's own endangered golden gooney.
