New protections proposed for mussels

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) - In response to a lawsuit, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed designating 1,200 miles of rivers and streams in Alabama, Florida and Georgia as critical habitat for seven federally protected mussel species.

Ag secretary says bird flu easily found

WASHINGTON (AP) - Scientists have a new test that can tell within four hours if a bird is possibly infected with bird flu _ but it still will take about a week to know if that suspect case is really sick with the deadly Asian strain, Agriculture Secretary Mike Johanns said Tuesday.

Petroglyph may have recorded Supernova

PHOENIX (AP) - A petroglyph near Phoenix may by the only record in the Western Hemisphere of a supernova that appeared in 1006 _ the brightest supernova visible from earth for more than 5,000 years.

Famed anthropology museum expanding
