Jellyfish blamed for stings in Honolulu

HONOLULU (AP) - Marine scientists believe they have determined what is stinging or biting canoe paddlers at Keehi Lagoon. Waikiki Aquarium curator Jerry Crow said he consulted with other marine scientists and is confident that a microscopic jellyfish called hydromedusa is causing the stings in the lagoon near Honolulu International Airport.

Feds to vote on ocean trawling plan

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Federal regulators are preparing to vote on a plan to protect deep water corals and other sensitive fish habitat that will likely include a permanent ban on bottom trawling in large tracts of the Pacific Ocean.

New planet discovered, twice Earth's size

WASHINGTON (AP) - A planet that may be Earth-like _ but too hot for life as we know it _ has been discovered orbiting a nearby star. The discovery of the planet, with an estimated radius about twice that of Earth, was announced Monday at the National Science Foundation.

Museum 'Iceman' might be contaminated

ROME (AP) - Researchers suspect the corpse of a 5,000-year-old mummy frozen in the Italian Alps might have been contaminated by bacteria since its discovery in 1991, a doctor who cares for the body said Monday.
