WASHINGTON (AP) - Climate warming could spell disaster for much of the multibillion-dollar U.S. wine industry. Areas suitable for growing premium wine grapes could be reduced by 50 percent _ and possibly as much as 81 percent _ by the end of this century, according to a study Monday in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Study: Ethanol won't solve energy problems

WASHINGTON (AP) - Ethanol is far from a cure-all for the nation's energy problems. It's not as environmentally friendly as some supporters claim and would supply only 12 percent of U.S. motoring fuel _ even if every acre of corn were used.

La. garden yields yard-long ... cuculoupe?

HOUMA, La. (AP) - They're a yard long and a good few inches across. The skin is waxy, sort of like a cucumber, but yellow and ridged like a canteloupe. A half dozen of them grew between the cucumbers and cantaloupes in a Houma home garden.

National Zoo observes panda's 1st birthday

WASHINGTON (AP) - One year ago, he was nearly hairless, pink and weighed about four ounces, less than most bagels. On Sunday, his first birthday, giant panda Tai Shan is an active, 56-pound cub and the star attraction of the National Zoo.
