NASA fixes shuttle tiles; launch on track

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - With the countdown for Discovery in its final hours, NASA was dealt an embarrassing setback Tuesday when a window cover fell off the shuttle and damaged thermal tiles near the tail. But the space agency quickly fixed the problem and said it was still on track for launch Wednesday.

Wyo. panel approves grizzly boundaries

RAWLINS, Wyo. (AP) - The Wyoming Game and Fish Commission set boundaries Tuesday for where grizzly bears can roam in the state in hopes of ending special federal protections and giving Wyoming, Montana and Idaho more control over the bears.

DENVER (AP) - A record 46 kittens were born to transplanted lynx in Colorado this spring, and some of the mothers are settling down with the same mate year after year, giving researchers hope that a 6-year reintroduction program is paying off.

Officials probing pelican deaths in N.D.

Caterpillars invade New Mexico forests

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Some of northern New Mexico's aspen stands have been stripped of their leaves by masses of wriggling caterpillars in search of food and a place to build a home, but forest officials are confident the trees will recover in time to show off their brilliant colors.
