Gulf barrier islands now more vulnerable

GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - Hurricane Katrina swamped barrier islands along the Gulf Coast, further gnawing away at the dunes and beaches that act as hurricane speed bumps and leaving the coastal area even more vulnerable to big storms.
 
Researchers trap cane toads with UV lights

DARWIN, Australia (AP) - The dreaded cane toad might have met its match _ disco-style ultraviolet lights. Northern Territory researchers said Sunday they have been successful using dark ultraviolet lights _ the same as those used in nightclubs _ to lure and trap the pests that are killing off many of Australia's native animals.
