PARIS (AP) - Scientists say that Neptune, one of the coldest planets in the solar system, has a surprising warm spot _ relatively speaking. An international team of astronomers has found that Neptune's south pole is warmer than other parts of the planet.
 
Chinese seabird on verge of extinction

BEIJING (AP) - The Chinese crested tern, a rare sea bird whose eggs are prized by some as a delicacy, is likely to be extinct in five years if authorities do not step up protection efforts, a conservation group said Friday.
 
Utah officials alarmed over bullfrogs

ROOSEVELT, Utah (AP) - Utah wildlife officials are alarmed over the presence of American bullfrogs. Acting on a tip from a golfer, biologists confirmed the frogs were in a pond at Roosevelt Golf Course. They have moved elsewhere in the Uinta Basin in eastern Utah, 150 miles east of Salt Lake City.

WASHINGTON (AP) - Scientists, wringing their hands over the identity of the famed "hobbit" fossil, have found a new clue in the wrist. Since the discovery of the bones in Indonesia in 2003, researchers have wrangled over whether the find was an ancient human ancestor or simply a modern human suffering from a genetic disorder.

LIMA, Peru (AP) - Peruvian astronomers said Thursday that evidence shows a meteorite crashed near Lake Titicaca over the weekend, leaving an elliptical crater and magnetic rock fragments in an impact powerful enough to register on seismic charts.

GREENBELT, Md. (AP) - A new NASA space telescope will give scientists a peek at some of the most energetic objects and events in the universe. The new Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope to be launched next spring doesn't see visible light like our eyes, but gamma rays, the most energetic photons in the electromagnetic spectrum.

Mystery boy in iron coffin identified

WASHINGTON (AP) - Researchers have solved the mystery of the boy in the iron coffin. The cast-iron coffin was discovered by utility workers in Washington two years ago. Smithsonian scientists led by forensic anthropologist Doug Owsley set about trying to determine who was buried in it, so the body could be placed in a new, properly marked grave.
