Researchers warn about coral reef deaths

CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands (AP) - Researchers warn that more than half of the world's coral reefs could die in less than 25 years, killed off by a deadly cocktail of rising sea temperatures, silt runoff from construction sites, algae and other toxic ingredients.

TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (AP) - A landmark U.S.-Canadian pact to clean up the Great Lakes has run its course after more than 30 years and should be scrapped in favor of a more modern strategy, a panel of officials from both nations said Tuesday.
 
Regulators may cut red snapper quotas

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Years of overfishing have left so few red snapper that almost none reach full maturity, scientists say. To avoid eliminating the highly sought-after species, federal regulators said Monday they plan to cut the numbers of red snapper that may be caught by almost 30 percent next year.

(AP) - State wildlife biologists are hoping an aggressive moose hunt this season will help cut in half the number of animals in the Northeast Kingdom where the population has far exceeded the ability of the land to provide for them and moose conflicts with people are increasing, officials say.

Small quakes reported near Old Faithful

YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) - A swarm of more than 70 small earthquakes shook the ground near Old Faithful geyser earlier this month. The largest was a magnitude 2.4, barely enough to be felt. The swarm of 74 quakes lasted several hours Oct. 14, according to information released by the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory.
