Shuttle's landing ends big year for NASA

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) - NASA began 2006 having flown only a single space shuttle mission since the Columbia disaster three years earlier. After Friday's landing of space shuttle Discovery and its seven astronauts, the U.S. space agency will end the year with three successful shuttle missions under its belt and the resumption of construction on the international space station.
 
Lawsuit seeks to shield Alaska sea otter

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - A conservation group, alarmed at a decrease in the number of sea otters in southwest Alaska, filed a lawsuit in federal court on Tuesday to try to compel the government to designate critical habitat to help the endangered species recover.
