2007 a year of weather records in U.S.

WASHINGTON (AP) - When the calendar turned to 2007, the heat went on and the weather just got weirder. January was the warmest first month on record worldwide _ 1.53 degrees above normal. It was the first time since record-keeping began in 1880 that the globe's average temperature has been so far above the norm for any month of the year.

Space shuttle launch could be delayed

HOUSTON (AP) - The space shuttle Atlantis' mission to the international space station likely will be pushed back a few more days or weeks as engineers study problems with electrical connectors in the spaceship's external fuel tank, a top NASA manager said Thursday.

Ancient mammoth carcass arrives in Japan

TOKYO (AP) - The frozen carcass of a 37,000-year-old baby mammoth unearthed this summer in Siberia arrived in Japan on Saturday for tests that researchers hope will shed new light on the internal structure of the ancient beasts, an official said.
