Medicaid cuts could affect students

WASHINGTON (AP) - Democrats have made it clear: They don't support recommendations from President Bush that would shave an estimated $77 billion from government health programs for seniors and the poor. But Bush doesn't need lawmakers' support for some of the changes that he wants to make to Medicare and Medicaid. He could get about $23 billion in savings over the next five years by issuing new federal regulations.

Bird flu reported in Pakistan capital

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) - The deadly H5N1 stain of bird flu has been confirmed at a home in the Pakistani capital, the third such case in about a week. But the virus has not affected any one in the country, an official said Saturday.

S.Korea kills birds after flu outbreak

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) - South Korean quarantine officials began slaughtering hundreds of thousands of poultry after a fresh outbreak of bird flu in a province near the South Korean capital, the Agriculture Ministry said Saturday.
