Treatments for menopause may be overused

WASHINGTON (AP) - American women may be overusing treatments for symptoms of menopause, including hormone therapies that can pose a risk, a National Institutes of Health consensus panel said Wednesday. "For women who don't have very serious symptoms, waiting it out may be the best strategy," said Dr. Carol M. Mangione of the University of California, Los Angeles.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A device to treat dangerous bulges in the main artery won approval from the Food and Drug Administration on Wednesday. The device is designed to prevent ruptures of the bulging weak spot in the thoracic aorta, the FDA said.

States consider obesity surgery coverage

HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A proposal before Connecticut lawmakers would require insurance companies to cover the surgery for people with a body-mass index of 30 or more if a doctor deems the surgery medically necessary. The BMI is a widely used formula based on height and weight.
