Study: Diet soda linked to heart risks

BOSTON (AP) - People who drank one or more diet sodas each day developed the same risks for heart disease as those who downed sugary regular soda, a large but inconclusive study found. The results surprised the researchers who expected to see a difference between regular and diet soda drinkers.

WASHINGTON (AP) - People should immediately throw away more than 90 different products, from chili sauce to corned beef hash to dog food, produced at a plant linked to a botulism outbreak, the government warned Monday. Castleberry's Food Company temporarily closed the suspect plant.

Doctors have long known that having chemo first sometimes shrinks an advanced tumor enough that a woman can undergo smaller surgery and keep her breast.

CHICAGO (AP) - Plenty of evidence suggests that having trouble understanding medical information is bad for your health. Now new research says it could even be deadly. A study of patients 65 and older found that those who couldn't understand basic written medical instructions were much more likely to die within six years than those who had no problems grasping the information.
