Chemo harms more breast cancer patients

WASHINGTON (AP) - Younger breast cancer patients seem to suffer more serious side effects from chemotherapy than previously thought. Roughly one in six of those women wind up at the emergency room or hospitalized because of such side effects as infection, low blood counts, dehydration or nausea, researchers reported Tuesday.

Bloomberg puts $125M into anti-smoking

Poor sterilizing blamed in China deaths

BEIJING (AP) - Investigators say that the makers of a Chinese antibiotic blamed for six deaths and dozens of illnesses failed to properly sterilize the drug, which allowed dangerous amounts of bacteria to grow in it, state media said Tuesday.

Penicillin formulation developer dies

WASHINGTON (AP) - Monroe J. Romansky, who developed a formulation of penicillin that prolonged the drug's action, died Aug. 12 at 95 of complications from Alzheimer's disease, his son said.
