Calif. politicians back stem cell research

LOS ANGELES (AP) - A bipartisan group of prominent politicians _ including Sen. Dianne Feinstein, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa _ have backed a federal bill that would ban reproductive human cloning without harming embryonic stem cell research.

'Rapid detox' may be life-threatening

CHICAGO (AP) - Internet ads for "ultra rapid detox" using anesthesia promise pain-free withdrawal from heroin and prescription painkillers. But the technique can be life-threatening, is not pain-free and has no advantage over other methods, a new study of 106 patients found.
