HONG KONG (AP) - Hong Kong announced plans for an emergency drill to prepare for a possible bird flu pandemic. China and several European countries tightened restrictions on poultry and fowl to prevent more outbreaks.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The flu vaccine-making system that serves as the best available protection against a pandemic relies on millions of chicken eggs, takes nine months to produce each year's flu shots and has changed little since the 18th century. This creaky system poses a big problem if a new, deadly strain emerges once the annual and inflexible production process begins.

Government's dairy advice questioned

ATLANTA (AP) - Americans should drink three cups of milk a day, the government says. Kiesha Diggs ignores that advice. Diggs, who is black, is lactose-intolerant, meaning she can't easily digest dairy products. Three cups of milk would wreak havoc on her intestines.
