Woman regains voice after nearly 3 years

(AP) - A woman thought to have Lou Gehrig's Disease has resumed talking after a silence of nearly three years _ the second such surprise recovery at a south-central Kansas facility. Nurse Georgi Hollins was tending to De Glaze on Halloween when her longtime patient surprised her.

Boy undergoes rare spinal tumor surgery

NEW YORK (AP) - Surgeons freed a 6-year-old boy from the twisting grip of a tumor Wednesday, cutting through the growth to relax his spinal cord and give him a chance at a relatively normal boyhood. In the first half of an operation that will resume next week, doctors at Montefiore Medical Center cut into Aidan Fraser's neck to attack the tumor that had grotesquely twisted his spinal column.

Bird flu expert wins WHO nomination
