Woman awakens after 6 years, slips back

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A woman who went into a vegetative state in November of 2000 awoke this week for three days, spoke with her family and a local television station before slipping back on Wednesday. "I'm fine," Christa Lilly told her mother on Sunday _ her first words in eight months. She has awakened four other times for briefer periods.
 
Robbery suspect wears bag in court

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - An armed robbery suspect took no chances on Wednesday in allowing a victim to see his face. Oji Ngozi, charged in an October 2003 armed robbery, wore a shopping bag with two small eye holes over his head at a motion hearing Tuesday to suppress photographic evidence used in a police lineup.
 
Delivery service finds missing parts

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (AP) - Attempts to do a movie stunt landed one man in the hospital with burned genitals and another facing criminal charges. The men were trying to do a stunt from one of the "Jackass" movies, in which a character lights his genitals on fire.
 
Man, 91, challenges Jack LaLanne, 92

LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - All of that Florida sun must be getting to Maine snowbird Roland Fortin. The 91-year-old has laid down a challenge to box fitness guru Jack LaLanne, who's 92. Fortin, former "cut man" for retired boxing champ Joey Gamache, said the idea for the four-round bout was hatched at the Tropical Gym in Pompano Beach, where Fortin works out during the winter in Florida.
 
Woman allegedly lived with dead roommate

CANTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 28-year-old woman may have kept the body of her roommate in their apartment for up to three weeks, police said. An anonymous caller told police in Wayne County's Canton Township on Tuesday night that the woman was living in the apartment with her dead roommate.

Police: Man brings daughter in scheme

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - A man took his 12-year-old daughter along when he went door-to-door fraudulently collecting money for a city athletic association, police said. Marcel Royal, 37, of Syracuse, was charged with second-degree scheme to defraud and second-degree criminal impersonation, both misdemeanors. He also was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, said Syracuse police spokesman Sgt. Tom Connellan.
 
Underage drinker offers police $17 bribe

IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - An underage drinker who police say tried to bribe an officer in exchange for a warning was arrested. Amber Breanne Gordon, 19, of Iowa City, was charged with bribery, possession of alcohol while under the legal age and unlawful use of a driver's license/aiding and abetting. She was released on her own recognizance.
 
Student's Dum Dum dress wins art award

LAPEER, Mich. (AP) - A high school student who made a dress out of candy wrappers has claimed a top award in an art competition. Caroline Bodell, a junior from Lapeer West High School east of Flint, won a Gold Key design award in a regional scholastic art competition with a dress made from Dum Dum Pop lollipop wrappers.
 
Man uses fake $50 for Girl Scout cookies

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (AP) - Somebody handed a group of Girl Scouts a bogus $50 bill and left with three boxes of their famous cookies and $40.25 in change, police said Wednesday. Volunteer Catherine Prior was helping her daughter and other Girl Scouts selling cookies last week outside a grocery store in Louisville, about 20 miles north of Denver, when a man bought one box each of Thin Mints, Tagalongs and Do-Si-Dos, paid with the $50 and left, according to a police report.
 
Man: Suspected pot pipe really 'my bomb'

SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) - Deputies got a surprise answer when they asked a man if an item in his bedroom was for smoking marijuana, a criminal complaint says. "That's not a dope pipe, it's my bomb," Eugene Hansen told them, according to the complaint filed in Shawano County Circuit Court.

Man allegedly offers boys cash for urine

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Police are investigating a report that a man asked boys at Holmes Elementary School to urinate in a cup for cash. A man last Thursday went into a boys' bathroom and asked students for a urine sample for a parole hearing, police said. Officers have not arrested the man yet, but his sister, Denise Berrios, 26, has been charged with giving a false statement.
