RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Mama Dip must be a mesmerizing speaker. The Southern cookbook author and restaurant owner, whose real name is Mildred Council, was speaking to about 100 fans Sunday afternoon at Quail Ridge Books & Music when a man gave a note to a cashier.

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Rex Miller has made artificial limbs for lots of humans, but never for a dog. Until now. Miller, owner of the Greater Flint Prosthetic Center, made a cast last week that will guide him on how to make a new leg for 4-month-old Peg, a puppy born without an ankle joint or right paw.

Twins face double trouble in judge scam

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - A pair of twins who tried to dupe a judge in a larceny case have doubled the trouble they now face. Yamahile Ortiz pleaded guilty to using a stolen credit card and was sentenced by New Britain Superior Court Judge Patrick J. Clifford to probation.
