NEW CUMBERLAND, W.Va. (AP) - A man facing robbery charges will receive a new trial after a juror was overheard to say the defendant should be convicted quickly so jurors could go home. The statement was allegedly made when the 12 jurors were taking a lunch break in Glenn A. Stewart's trial in Hancock County Circuit Court.

N.C. police find gator, caiman at hotel

GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) - Authorities trying to serve an arrest warrant at a motel instead found some sharp-toothed guests. U.S. marshals and High Point police found a 3-foot alligator and a 3-foot caiman _ similar to an alligator _ in a fish tank at a Red Roof Inn in Greensboro. They didn't, however, find the suspect they had sought.

Deer killed after plowing through store

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - An unwelcome visitor to a western Kentucky furniture store got a full-barreled reception from the store's owner. Furniture Savings owner Dallas Brawner found himself in a strange predicament Tuesday afternoon when a four-point buck leapt through the front window of his store in downtown Hopkinsville and into his showroom.

Some think pollution may save planet

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - If the sun warms the Earth too dangerously, the time may come to draw the shade. The "shade" would be a layer of pollution deliberately spewed into the atmosphere to help cool the planet. This over-the-top idea comes from prominent scientists, among them a Nobel laureate. The reaction here at the U.N. conference on climate change is a mix of caution, curiosity and some resignation to such "massive and drastic" operations, as the chief U.N. climatologist describes them.
