Midnight Zamboni run prompts firings

BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Two employees of the city's ice skating rink have been fired for making a midnight fast-food run in a pair of Zambonis. An anonymous tipster reported seeing the two big ice-resurfacing machines chug through a Burger King drive-through and return to the rink around 12:30 a.m. on Nov. 10. The squat, rubber-tired vehicles, which have a top speed of about 5 mph, drove 1 1/2 miles in all.
 
Backyard toilet fence upsets neighbors

SOAP LAKE, Wash. (AP) - Some people use scarecrows to chase away birds, or garlic to block vampires. Rick Froebe uses toilets to repel golfers. Froebe has erected a backyard "fence" made of seven old toilets, a few used bathtubs and some broken-down water heaters, all designed to prevent golfers from the adjacent Lakeview Golf & Country Club from approaching his yard.
 
Turkeys try to catch train out of N.J.

RAMSEY, N.J. (AP) - Some wild turkeys, it appears, were trying to get out of New Jersey before Thanksgiving Day. A spokesman for the NJ Transit said train officials reported a dozen or so wild turkeys waiting on a station platform in Ramsey, about 20 miles northwest of New York City, on Wednesday afternoon. The line travels to Suffern, N.Y.

NEW YORK (AP) - There won't be any turkey for Patrick Bertoletti on Thanksgiving _ he got his fill the day before. Bertoletti, a 21-year-old culinary student from Chicago, won the annual turkey-eating contest at Artie's Deli on Wednesday, eating 4.8 pounds of the holiday bird _ a full pound more than the second-place finisher.
 
Semi with live turkeys crashes in Iowa

AINSWORTH, Iowa (AP) - A toppled semitrailer gave its load of live turkeys little to be thankful for. The semi carrying 900 of the birds tipped onto its side early Tuesday morning as it was turning on an exit ramp from Iowa Highway 92 to U.S. Highway 218 in southeast Iowa.
 
150-200 dogs removed from S.D. house

ROUND ROCK, Texas (AP) - Police in this Austin suburb were stumped for hours by the 49 emergency calls that kept coming in from an unregistered cell phone. The caller would say nothing before hanging up, sometimes after a brief giggle. Eventually, though, police found their man, er child: a 7-year-old calling from his elementary school classroom just for kicks.

Phillip Dale Williams, 37, had as many as four wives at the same time, Chuck Felmlee, deputy commonwealth's attorney, said.
