Pair learn finders not always keepers

SALEM, Ore. (AP) - A pair of Salem residents learned the hard way that finders are not always keepers. Lonnie Anderson, 47, and Jacqueline Shimmin, 37, were arrested last week failing to return a lost ring. Each faces a charge of first-degree aggravated theft of lost or mislaid property, said Sgt. Albert Gordon of the Salem Police Department.

Cyclist nabbed for motel hallway ride

ROCHESTER, Minn. (AP) - A man clad in swim trunks was arrested after riding a bicycle through a motel's hallways and hitting two men. A woman showering after using the swimming pool at Best Western Soldiers Field Tower and Suites told police she heard a door open and saw a naked man at about 3:10 p.m. Sunday.

LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) - You can excuse Dr. Kenneth Merkitch if he's seeing double these days. He's been an obstetrician-gynecologist at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center for 19 years, but he said he's never experienced a 24-hour on-call period like the one he put in on Friday and Saturday, when he delivered four sets of twins.
 
Honest man returns mistaken $2M check

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - There are probably a million ways Jerry Mika could spend $2 million dollars. Trouble is, he couldn't cash the check. Expecting a $15 refund from the Utah Department of Commerce, the Draper man opened his mail recently to find a $2,245,342 check.

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - An impatient baby ruined Thanksgiving dinner for a family which then welcomed its newest member on the road to the hospital. Minyon Brister said her contractions started Thursday as she bent down to put the turkey in the oven.
 
San Diego Zoo panda cub named Zhen Zhen

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Zoo's panda cub finally has a name: Zhen Zhen, or Precious. Following Chinese tradition, the zoo waited until the cub, which was born Aug. 3, was 100 days old before giving her a name Monday.
 
Pigeon racers petition to become sport

LONDON (AP) - Pigeon racers are petitioning Queen Elizabeth II to have their activity officially classified as a sport. The Belford Racing Pigeon Club hopes the British monarch, the patron of the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, will intervene in a dispute that could see them pay millions of dollars in taxes, chairman Eric Sim said.

RENO, Nev. (AP) - A California man was arrested after a gun was fired during a fight at a wedding reception at a Reno church, officers said. Pasilio Tevita Tava, 23, was taken into custody after the incident late Saturday afternoon at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
