LIMA, Peru (AP) - Responding to a growing scandal, Peru's president went on national television to deny that he and his family forged signatures to register his political party.
President Alejandro Toledo appeared on Channel 5's Sunday night news program, Panorama, after a congressional commission delayed interviewing him about the alleged fraud.
"In Peru Possible, no signature forging factory ever existed," Toledo said. "There is a factory of lies that seeks to distract the president from doing his job, but the people are disgusted by it and the president is sick of the dirty political game.
