LAS VEGAS (AP) - Mel Gibson got a nice thank you from theater owners grateful that he packed their cinemas last year for his religious blockbuster "The Passion of the Christ."
Gibson received an award Thursday for favorite film of the year as voted on by USA Today readers in balloting sponsored by the newspaper and the Coca-Cola Co. The honor was presented at ShoWest, a convention of theater owners.
"The Passion of the Christ," starring Jim Caviezel in the story of Jesus' bloody final hours of scourging and crucifixion, became one of 2004's biggest hits, grossing $370 million.
