KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia (AP) - The Russian quartet of Olga Pyleva, Svetlana Ishmouratova, Ivan Tcherezov and Nikolay Kruglov won the inaugural 24-kilometer mixed relay Sunday ahead of Russia's second team and Germany One.
In the experimental four-leg race, two women biathletes and two men competed for their teams. Women ran the first two legs, followed by the men. Each leg had two shooting stations the first from a prone position and the second from standing.
The Russian team, with nine missed targets but no penalty loops, won in 1 hour, 13 minutes, 24.1 seconds. The Russian second quartet finished 7.3 seconds behind after missing seven targets and running one penalty loop. Germany's first team missed 15 targets and ran one penalty loop to finish third, 34.2 seconds behind the winner.
