MOSCOW (AP) - The world championships were a crash course for many skaters in their sport's new scoring system. For some, the learning curve is going to be steep.
The format, put in place in response to the 2002 Olympic judging scandal, was used for the first time at the worlds. It still has some technical bugs, but skaters now must be more attentive to technique in preparing for next year's Turin Olympics.
The first day raised worries after it was discovered China's Li Chengjiang was not given points for a spin during qualifying rounds. The error was corrected, and officials said the scoring software was modified to prevent another occurrence.
