BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) - The European Union's head office on Monday ordered Sweden to end the broadcasting monopoly of state-owned Teracom AB and threatened to take Stockholm to court in two months.
The European Commission said in a statement that Sweden should open up its broadcasting markets, as has happened with most EU nations over the past two decades when private broadcasters were able to offer viewers more choice.
"Sweden is depriving broadcasters of their right to perform certain services themselves," said EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes.
