MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - If not for D'or Fischer's upper respiratory infection, West Virginia might not have made a late-season run that has landed the Mountaineers deep in the NCAA tournament.
The transformation from a Big East also-ran to an NCAA contender, which will play Texas Tech in the third round on Thursday night in Albuquerque, got its start on Feb. 5.
Fischer was sick. Kevin Pittsnogle got only his second start of the season in Fischer's place against then-No. 16 Pittsburgh. Pittsnogle scored a career-high 27 points, including eight in overtime, to lead the Mountaineers to an 83-78 win.
