STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut sophomore Charlie Villanueva, who led the Huskies to an unprecedented ninth regular-season Big East title, is considering a jump to the NBA but has not made a final decision, a team official said Tuesday.
"Certainly he has not told Coach (Jim) Calhoun he will not be coming back," team spokesman Kyle Muncy said.
Villanueva, an athletic 6-foot-11 forward from Brooklyn, N.Y., played his best basketball in the second half of the season. He averaged 13.6 points and 8.3 rebounds a game, emerging as the Huskies' leading scorer. He matched a career-high of 25 points in UConn's 88-74 win over Notre Dame on Feb. 21 during a nine-game win streak. He closed out the season Sunday with 16 points and 12 boards in UConn's 65-62 loss to North Carolina State in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
