Detroit-Area Towns Seek Farm Preservation

RICHMOND TOWNSHP, Mich. (AP) - Five communities on the northern fringe of metropolitan Detroit are collaborating to preserve farmland from development.

The Macomb County townships have formed a Purchase of Development Rights committee that will use state and federal grant money to pay farmers the development value of land to ensure it will remain agricultural.

Three farms already have been identified as worth preserving through the program.
