LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - The Liberty women's basketball team is used to playing against perennial powerhouses and losing. But something different happened this year to the evangelical Christian university founded by the Rev. Jerry Falwell. The Lady Flames, first round losers the past eight years, pulled off two upsets in the NCAA tournament and are the surprising darlings of the regional semifinals.
Up next is another game against another major program: top-seeded Louisiana State. Whether they can pull off another upset hardly seems to matter after what they accomplished in the first two rounds.
"We're not supposed to be here. We're not supposed to be in the Sweet 16," senior guard Kristal Tharp said. "That just shows how much God is working in our team."
