The blaze touched off an explosion aboard the MV Polaris, sending flames and black plumes of smoke into the sky at Ghana's main port of Tema, 12 miles east of the capital, Accra, witnesses said.
"The vessel is totally lost, and all human beings on board are feared dead," Energy Minister Mike Ocquaye told reporters.
