HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) - Zimbabwe's ruling party expressed confidence Saturday that it will win a majority in this week's parliamentary elections, while the opposition said a worsening economy will drive voters to protest President Robert Mugabe's policies.
William Nhara, the director of elections for the Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front, predicted the ruling party will win two-thirds of the seats in Thursday's voting for the 150-seat legislature.
"We have been conducting internal polls to determine our strength and our predictions. That's why I am saying we are bubbling with confidence," Nhara said Saturday.
