GLENSHAW, Pa. (AP) - A legislator was charged Wednesday with lying about a white powder he claimed was inside a letter mailed from a critical constituent, and with retaliating against and harassing those who questioned his political finances.
Republican state Rep. Jeffrey E. Habay, 38 — who is awaiting trial on ethics charges in an unrelated case — claimed he got the letter at home in May and that it had a suspicious white substance inside, raising fears of possible anthrax contamination.
The U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the substance was harmless.
