MOSCOW (AP) - The new head of Russian soccer plans to fire the national coach because the team is struggling to qualify for next year's World Cup in Germany.
Vitaly Mutko was elected president of the governing body Saturday and said the new coach probably will be appointed in time for the June 4 qualifier against Latvia, the Interfax news agency said.
Coach Georgy Yartsev has been on the job for 20 months, and his team is in third place in its qualifying group.
