HONOLULU (AP) - The state plans to compile a list of Hawaii's native endangered species to secure wildlife conservation funding from Congress.
The state Department of Land and Natural Resources has a six-month deadline to complete its Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation Strategy — a list of Hawaii's endangered plants, birds and insects — to receive money under the State Wildlife Grant Program.
Wildlife managers hope to make conservation work more effective by ranking those species that are in greatest need of help.
