MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - The 2006 Commonwealth Games will not test all medal winners for performance-enhancing drugs, choosing to target only those sports where there is a greater possibility of doping.
Those sports include track and field, weightlifting, swimming and cycling, Commonwealth Games medical officials said Friday. They added that between one in four and one in three of the 4,500 athletes are expected to be tested.
The competition next March will feature random testing as well as the targeted testing of medalists and competitors in the high-risk sports. Those selected for testing will give urine and blood samples.
