WASHINGTON (AP) - Eduardo Aguirre, director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, is President Bush's choice to be U.S. ambassador to Spain.
The White House on Friday announced Bush's intention to nominate Aguirre, who has led the Homeland Security agency since its inception in February 2003. Aguirre's nomination must be confirmed by the Senate.
Aguirre previously was vice chairman and chief operating officer of the Export-Import Bank, a federal agency that provides loans, loan guarantees and insurance to American companies so they can compete against foreign businesses.
