RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Flu season isn't over yet in Virginia but it's waning, state health officials said. Virginia's influenza activity has dropped from "widespread" status, which started in February, according to statistics compiled for the week that ended April 2.
Widespread levels occur when more than half of the state is experiencing higher-than-normal levels of flu. The state is now at "regional" level, which means flu activity is high in less than half the state.
"It's still high in northern Virginia, still up somewhat in the southwest and still up but dropping in central Virginia," Diane Woolard, epidemiologist with state Department of Health. "Flu's still out there. It's still occurring but occurring at a lower level of activity."
