FRANKFURT, Germany (AP) - Thousands of public sector workers staged warning strikes Monday aimed at forcing German states to agree to a deal that would introduce performance-rated pay, union officials said.
About 12,000 workers in state-run hospitals, administrative offices and universities struck for several hours in six of Germany's 16 states, the ver.di union said. They want the adoption of a deal agreed to in February by public sector employees at the federal and municipal levels.
"We all need one inclusive agreement for all public sector workers in Germany," Frank Bsirske, head of the ver.di union told a group of protesters in Hanover in northern Germany.
