NEW YORK (AP) - The Mets' home opener against the Houston Astros was delayed for 14 minutes Monday when a rotating advertisement board behind the center-field fence malfunctioned.
"You stay in this game long enough, you see everything," Mets starter Tom Glavine said. "I didn't expect that, though."
Glavine had completed his eight warmup pitches before the start of the sixth inning when home plate umpire Mark Wegner noticed that the board that serves as the black batter's eye during play was stuck on a blue-and-white ad. He halted play because the colorful sign would have been distracting to hitters.
