HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) - A judge acquitted two British journalists Thursday of charges that they violated Zimbabwe's strict media laws by working without accreditation.
Toby Harnden, 35, and Julian Simmonds, 45, who both work for the Sunday Telegraph, were to appear again Friday for a ruling on separate charges that they violated immigration laws by overstaying their tourist visas. They have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Judge Never Diza on Thursday dismissed the allegations against the two, saying the state had failed to prove they were working as journalists in Zimbabwe. The government can appeal the ruling.
